Snowflake Crinkle Cookies

by Tamra Ryan

This cookie recipe is an old recipe of my grandmother’s. The cookies are chocolate, sprinkled with powdered sugar and look a little like snowflakes when they have finished baking. I have fond memories of eating these in my grandmother’s kitchen, freshly baked and still warm!

In a large bowl, sift together:

  • 1 cup of plain flour

  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder

  • ¼ teaspoon of salt

In a saucepan, melt together:

  • 2 squares (around 57g or 2 ounces) of unsweetened chocolate

  • ¼ cup of butter

In a small bowl, mix together:

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla

  • 2 eggs (beaten)

Combine all of the above in the large bowl and mix well. 1 cup of chopped walnuts may also be added.

Refrigerate for 4-5 hours or overnight.

Scoop tablespoons of dough, shape into balls and roll in powdered sugar.

Bake at 190 degrees Celsius for approximately 10 minutes.
